PROFINET Slave/Device Implementation — Protocol Stack from Scratch

canticsoft GmbH developed the complete PROFINET Slave/Device implementation for industrial diagnostic devices. The protocol stack was written entirely from scratch — not based on ready-made chips or libraries. This depth of implementation enables maximum flexibility, optimal performance and complete control over every aspect of PROFINET communication. The implementation meets all requirements for PROFINET certification and has been deployed and validated in productive industrial environments. Knowledge of timing behaviour, conformance requirements and typical problem patterns in PROFINET networks is deeply embedded in the team.

SoC & FPGA-based Diagnostic Platforms

The hardware foundation of industrial PROFINET diagnostic devices was developed by canticsoft GmbH on modern SoC and FPGA platforms. FPGA-based real-time telegram analysis enables the analysis of every single PROFINET telegram with nanosecond accuracy — the prerequisite for precise diagnostics and anomaly detection. The close integration of FPGA hardware and embedded software is a core competence: timestamping, packet analysis and fault classification occur in hardware — for maximum speed without operating system jitter.

Custom Embedded Linux (Yocto) — Dual-RootFS Update System

The operating system for industrial PROFINET diagnostic devices was developed by canticsoft GmbH as a custom Embedded Linux distribution based on the Yocto Project. The system is lean, security-hardened and precisely tailored to the hardware platform. The developed Dual-RootFS update system enables atomic, fail-safe over-the-air updates: while the active system runs, the update is written to the backup filesystem and only activated after successful validation. If the update fails, the device automatically restarts with the previous version — without production downtime, without manual intervention.

PROFINET Simulation Software & Network Planning

canticsoft GmbH developed simulation software for PROFINET networks that enables network behaviour and bandwidth utilisation to be planned and visualised straightforwardly — before the first hardware is installed. This reduces planning errors, accelerates commissioning and minimises risks. The simulation accounts for all relevant PROFINET parameters: cycle times, jitter requirements, bandwidth needs of different device types and topological dependencies. The result is a reliable planning basis for complex industrial networks.

OPC UA / SNMP / SCADA Integration

Connecting industrial PROFINET systems to higher-level SCADA and MES systems via OPC UA, SNMP and REST APIs is a further focus area. canticsoft GmbH has developed integration layers that transmit network diagnostic data in real time to higher-level systems and enable bidirectional control.
